The computer system consists of two basic components put together to form the computer system, which are the hardware and software. Recently discovered is the Computer People’s Ware or Human Ware as the case may be.

Hardware Components

Computer hardware is the collection of physical parts of a computer system that can be seen, feel and touch. This includes the following:

Computer case

A computer case also known as a computer chassis, tower, and system unit is the enclosure that contains or houses most of the components of a computer (usually excluding the display such as: monitor, keyboard and mouse). The following are component found inside the computer case:

A motherboard also called mainboard is the main printed circuit board (PCB) found in general purpose microcomputers and other expandable systems. It holds and allows communication between many of the crucial electronic components of a computer system such as the central processing unit (CPU) and memory, and provides connections for other peripherals such as keyboard and mouse etc. It salve as the backplane of computer, a motherboard usually contains significant sub-systems such as the central processor, the chipset’s input/output and memory controllers, interface connectors and other components integrated for general purpose use. The motherboard is a computer’s central communications backbone connectivity point, through which all other components and external peripherals connect and link to.

A hard disk drive also called the following names hard disk, hard drive or fixed disk is an electromechanical data storage device that uses magnetic storage to store and retrieve digital information using one or more rigid rapidly rotating disks coated with magnetic material.

The hard disk drive is the main, and usually largest, data storage hardware component device in a computer. The operating system, software titles, and most other files are stored in the hard disk drive.

The hard drive is sometimes referred to as the “C drive” in the computer folder due to the fact that Microsoft Windows, by default designates the “C” drive letter to the primary partition on the primary hard drive in a computer system.

A central processing unit (CPU) is the electronic circuitry within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by performing the basic arithmetic, logical, control and input/output operations specified by the instructions giving by the user to the computer.

The central processing unit (CPU) is the computer hardware component that’s responsible for interpreting and executing most of the commands from the computer’s other hardware and software. All sorts of devices use a CPU including desktop, laptop, and tablet computers, smart-phones…even your flat-screen television set at home.

Intel and AMD are the two most popular CPU manufacturers for desktops, laptops, and servers, while Apple, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm are big smart-phone and tablet CPU makers. You may see a many different names used to describe the CPU such as processor, computer processor, microprocessor, central processor, and the “brains” of the computer.

Random access memory is a form of computer data storage that stores data and machine code currently being used by user that the main time. A random-access memory device allows data items to be read or written in almost the same amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory. In contrast with other direct-access data storage media such as hard disks, CD-RWs, DVD-RWs and the older magnetic tapes and drum memory, the time required to read and write data items varies significantly depending on their physical locations on the recording medium, due to mechanical limitations such as media rotation speeds and arm movement.

RAM is the physical hardware component inside a computer case that temporarily stores data, serving as the computer’s “working” memory when the computer is powered on. Additional RAM allows a computer to work with more information at the same time (faster), which usually has a dramatic effect on total system performance. Some popular manufacturers of RAM include Kingston, PNY, Crucial Technology, and Corsair.

A power supply is an electrical component that supplies electric power to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert electric current from a source to the correct voltage, current, and frequency to power the load in the computer box. Typically, it converts one type of electrical power to another, but it may also convert a different form of energy such as solar, mechanical, or chemical into electrical energy.

A power supply provides components with an electric power. The term usually pertains to devices integrated within the component being powered. For example, computer power supplies convert AC current to DC current and are generally located at the rear of the computer case, along with at least one fan. A power supply is also known as a power supply unit, power brick or power adapter.

As a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are separate standalone pieces of equipment, while others are built into the load appliances that they power. Examples of the latter include power supplies found in desktop computers and consumer electronics devices. Other functions that power supplies may perform include limiting the current drawn by the load to safe levels, shutting off the current in the event of an electrical fault, power conditioning to prevent electronic noise or voltage surges on the input from reaching the load, power-factor correction, and storing energy so it can continue to power the load in the event of a temporary interruption in the source power (uninterruptible power supply).
